Yanks win opener, gain ground on Red Sox

Greg Bird clubbed a two-run home run, Gary Sanchez hit his 12th homer of the month and CC Sabathia allowed one run over six innings as the Yankees topped the Red Sox, climbing to within 4 1/2 games of Boston in the AL East. Eduardo Rodriguez continued to struggle for the Red Sox, allowing five runs in five-plus innings.
