Sources: Long won’t return as hitting coach

Kevin Long, whom Daniel Murphy, Yoenis Cespedes and others credit for their wide-ranging successes over the past three seasons, will not return as Mets hitting coach in 2018. Multiple sources said the Mets intend to promote assistant hitting coach Pat Roessler into Long’s old position. First-base coach Tom Goodwin also will not return to the big league staff.
