Source: Padres hire Ellis as special assistant

The Padres are hiring former catcher A.J. Ellis as a special assistant to the club’s baseball operations staff, MLB.com has learned. The hiring brings Ellis’ Major League career to an end after the backstop logged 66 games with San Diego in 2018.
