Shields to start if Royals force Central tiebreaker

At mid-morning Sunday, manager Ned Yost didn’t know which team his Royals would be facing next after the regular-season finale. It might be Detroit, Oakland or Seattle. At that point, no one knew. Yost, relaxing in an office chair in the visitors’ clubhouse, knew who his pitcher would be regardless of the opponent: James Shields.
