Royals, Yanks on opposite ends of playoff-race spectrum

The playoff races in the American League are dwindling to the final three weeks of the season. At one end of the spectrum, the Royals control their own fate, leading the Central over Detroit. At the other end, the Yankees are watching their chances of attaining even the second Wild Card berth diminish with every loss.
