Royals designate Chen for assignment

Left-hander Bruce Chen’s often inspiring and successful six seasons with the Kansas City Royals are behind him. Chen was designated for assignment on Friday, one day after giving up six runs in the 10th inning of an 11-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
