Padres cap ’18 with walk-off on dropped 3rd K
In their final game of a trying season, the Padres added a sweet memento. Just as they did in the final game in 2016 and ’17, San Diego walked off with a win, this one a 4-3 decision against the D-backs, although it wasn’t your usual type of celebration. With one out in the 10th inning, Manuel Margot tripled off of Jake Barrett, electrifying the crowd. But when Barrett’s third strike to Francisco Mejia got past John Ryan Murphy, the catcher threw to first to ensure the putout. Margot raced home, capping it off with a head-first slide, en route to the Padres’ seventh walk-off of the season.
