It’s not often that the two best teams in the Major Leagues — going by regular season record — meet in the postseason with a league pennant on the line. In 1969, baseball began to expand and split each league into two divisions, creating a need for the American League and National League Championship Series. Since then, the clubs with the two best records in MLB have met in the ALCS or NLCS just eight times.
