Early offense enough as Pirates down Mets
For a week, the Pirates had problems scoring runs. That wasn’t the case on Tuesday as Pittsburgh jumped out to an early lead on the strength of homers by Gregory Polanco and Josh Bell. Three costly errors by the Mets spoiled a strong start by Seth Lugo, who only allowed one earned run through five innings. The Mets staged a seventh-inning rally capped by a three-run pinch-hit homer by Wilmer Flores, but the Pirates shut New York down in the final two frames.
