Bumgarner, Pence star in Giants’ victory

Madison Bumgarner and his Phillies counterpart, A.J. Burnett, ignored a 59-minute rain delay in the fourth inning to engage each other in a scoreless tie through eight innings. Hunter Pence broke up the standoff with a two-out, bases-loaded double in the ninth inning to lift the Giants to a 3-1 victory that put them in an enviable position entering Thursday’s series finale.
