Bullpen steps up, holds off Reds after Fiers exits

The Tigers’ bullpen stepped up after Mike Fiers left Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Reds at Comerica Park after the second inning with a left lower shin contusion. Drew VerHagen followed with three scoreless innings, allowing Detroit to build a six-run cushion. Cincinnati battled back with a four-run seventh, but Joe Jimenez and Shane Greene closed out a win with back-to-back scoreless innings.
