Angels rely on long ball to rally past Athletics
Kole Calhoun and Justin Upton each hit two-run homers and the Angels’ bullpen pitched 3 1/3 shutout ball to help the Angels edge the Athletics, 4-3, on Friday in the series opener. Albert Pujols picked up his 1,000th hit as an Angel and became the ninth player in history to record 1,000 hits in each league. Matt Chapman and Khris Davis each homered for the A’s, whose lead in the Wild Card standings shrunk to 1 1/2 games.
