Lauer’s sharp outing gets plenty of run support
For five innings on Saturday night, Eric Lauer was sharp. On the eve of his 23rd birthday, the rookie left-hander worked crisply and effectively, allowing just a run on five hits, while striking out four in San Diego’s 8-2 victory over the Reds at Petco Park. There was plenty of support for Lauer and an equally effective bullpen. Adam Cimber, Craig Stammen and Jose Castillo worked scoreless frames, including a brilliant big league debut for Castillo who was called up earlier in the day.
