Sox sweep as J.D. hits 18th HR to tie MLB lead

J.D. Martinez mashed his 18th homer of the season — tying him with Mike Trout for the MLB lead — to lift the Red Sox to a series sweep of the Blue Jays at Fenway Park. Eduardo Nunez also homered for Boston and hit an RBI double in the two-run eighth, providing a necessary cushion for the Sox. With Nunez’s double and Brock Holt’s RBI single, Boston maintained its lead despite Kendrys Morales’ two-run double in the ninth inning for Toronto. Teoscar Hernandez went deep for the Blue Jays, while starter Sam Gaviglio yielded four runs in six frames. Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez gave up two runs in 6 2/3 innings.
