Clutch W-hit: Merrifield’s single in 8th lifts KC

The Royals have been searching for a clutch hit with runners in scoring position and Whit Merrifield came through, as his RBI single with one out in the eighth inning off White Sox reliever Bruce Rondon was the go-ahead blow in the series finale. Cheslor Cuthbert, who had not homered since Aug. 20 and had not recorded an RBI since March 31, hit two home runs, including a three-run shot that gave the Royals a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning.
