Hoffman trade in ’93 worked out well for Padres
It was June 1993, and Padres GM Randy Smith quickly set to work on finding a trade partner. On June 24, Gary Sheffield and left-hander Rich Rodriguez were shipped to the Marlins for a pair of prospects and a scrawny 25-year-old right-hander named Trevor Hoffman, who had debuted earlier in the season. Twenty-five years later, Hoffman is headed for the Hall of Fame.
