The Giants, who have run the table in October two of the past four seasons, are an official National League Wild Card. The Pirates have the Cardinals’ full attention in the NL Central, St. Louis’ lead whittled to one game. The Tigers and Royals both won, Detroit keeping its two-game American League Central lead.
